Dental Examination
X-rays
Sometimes complications of the temporomandibular joint, or muscle spasms can cause symptoms similar to that of a toothache. Toothache severity can vary from mild to excruciating, dull or intense. Further pain may be due to chewing or hot or cold food/fluids. When this happens, our dental team needs to perform a thorough examination. We need to test your teeth properly and utilize dental x-rays to determine why this is happening, which will help us decide whether it is originating within the tooth or somewhere else.

Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
At each of your dental visits, until the age of 18, your dentist or hygienist will apply a fluoride treatment to your teeth. This concentrated fluoride should remain on your teeth for one minute and should not be rinsed away for at least a half an hour. This fluoride will strengthen the enamel and make your teeth more resistant to decay.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealants are thin plastic coatings that protect the chewing surfaces of children's back teeth from decay (cavities). Because they have small pits and grooves, these surfaces are rough and uneven. Food and germs can get stuck in the pits and grooves and stay there for a long time because toothbrush bristles cannot brush them away. Sealants fill in the grooves and keep the food out.

Fillings
The cost is moderate and depends on the size of the filling and the technique used by the dentist to place it on the prepared tooth. It takes longer to place a composite filling than an amalgam filling. Composite fillings require a cavity that can be kept clean and dry during filling and they are subject to stain and discoloration over time.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
Implants are one of the most popular and effective ways to improve the look and function of a person’s smile. Dental implants have 3 components that are used to build the implant including the root (which is a titanium screw that is surgically placed in the jawbone), the abutment (which is the part of the appliance that attaches the titanium screw to the new tooth), and the crown (which is the part of the tooth that is seen above the gumline). When treatment is complete, patients will have a beautiful set of permanent teeth. Crowns are typically made of porcelain and can last a lifetime when taken care of correctly. The timeline for receiving dental implants varies depending on how long it takes individual patients to heal after oral surgery; however, most patients complete dental implant treatment within several months from the time of consultation to completion. While dental implants are used to replace individual teeth, they can also be used to replace entire mouths of teeth. Dental implants and dentures are often used together to create the look of a full set of teeth without having to implant a full set of dental implants surgically. Bone Grafting
In addition to gum therapy, some patients will need to undergo a series of bone grafts to prepare the jawbone to receive implants or other dental devices and to maintain the integrity of the bone the years to come. Bone grafting can be done in two ways: traditionally bone grafts are taken from a donor and surgically attached to your existing jawbone. Another option is to take bone from your own mouth and restructure it to fit your jawbone. We can discuss your options in detail during our consultation.
