What you can expect when you make an initial nutrition counseling appointment: You will receive a packet in the mail approximately one to two weeks prior to your appointment date. The packet includes questionnaires about your child’s current diet, activity and other food-related behaviors. The first appointment is generally scheduled for 1 hour.
Pediatric Care
My role at Dundalk Pediatrics is to provide health and nutrition education and counseling. My approach is to partner with you to promote your child’s health and well-being. I provide both individual counseling and group classes to promote nutrition and fitness, and to teach children healthy strategies for managing stress. Classes are offered at DPA throughout the year; dates are posted on the DPA Facebook site and our website. You can also call our office to find out what classes are being offered.
Primary Care
Our providers and care team have collaborative relationships with pediatric sub-specialists at the major medical institutions in the area (Johns Hopkins Hospital, University of Maryland Medical System, and Sinai Hospital). We often discuss care plans, goals of treatment and therapy with these sub-specialists. As primary care providers, we often relay information from the family to the subspecialist and can help with referrals and follow-up appointments.
Emergency Care
What constitutes an emergency? If your child is experiencing any of the following severe symptoms we recommend that you take them to the nearest emergency room or call 911...
Constipation
Immunizations
As children enter preschool, we see them annually to monitor their growth and developmental progress. Many preschoolers test the rules and routines. Their motor and verbal skills are advancing and they often get into everything. They are affectionate one moment and bossy the next. They are curious about the world around them, and it is so important to create safe environments for them to explore. We are here to help sort out what behaviors are “normal” and what behaviors are concerning. It is critical to identify delays in development so that early intervention services can be mobilized. All 4 year olds need to have their physicals and vaccinations before entering kindergarten. The preschool visits occur at the following ages: 3 years, 4 years, and 5 years.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a very common neurobehavioral condition that affects approximately 10 percent of school-aged children. Symptoms of ADHD usually appear in early childhood and usually come to the attention of the family as the child enters school. It can be very upsetting to see your child struggle in school and in their relationships with others. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis. Untreated ADHD can have long-standing consequences including school failure, family stress and disruption, depression and anxiety, accidental injuries, problems with relationships, substance use, and job failure.
