Dr. Michael Kenneth Grofik, OD

First of all I came in because I had a scratched eye on the lower part of my eyeball. The Optometrist did not even look at my lower eyeball where I said that I had been scratched. Instead he gave me an eye exam to check what glasses prescription I needed. I did not come in for a prescription! Also he did not show very good "bedside manner," he told me while I was in the exam room that I was wrong about concerns I had expressed (about a surgery I had previously) and walked me into the lobby where other patients were waiting and told me in an unkind, arrogant way that I was wrong about concerns I had about the prescription he gave. He said I am 20/100 & should not be driving without glasses, which does not sound correct to me.



Update: I went to a new eye Dr. today he said my eyes are 20/30. My husband has brought our girls in to get glasses from Grofik but no longer, definitely won't be going back! It seems to me that he makes up prescriptions to get $, in addition he had also complained to me that he does not make enough money.

I would not recommend this place. I arrived for my 8:30 appointment, handing the employee my insurance discount of $40 for eye exam. I had completed the necessary paperwork stating I DID NOT want my eyes dilated. I was going shopping afterwards. I went in to the eye exam room with a very pleasant person who asked some questions, put some information into the computer then said the doctor would be in soon. The doctor arrived and asked why I was there. I stated I was wanting a prescription for contacts and glasses. He checked my eyes and did the usual chit chat. He proceeded to dilate my eyes. Hmmm. Is there a law against that? Especially since I signed a paper stated that I DID NOT WANT MY EYES DILATED? I was fitted with contacts and his remark to me upon leaving was if you like the contacts they have the desk order them for you. No I will see you in a week to see how the prescription is or nothing. When I arrived at the check out counter the woman said it would be ?????. I asked her about my exam discount (which was $20 less than what she quoted) and after reading my documentation changed the price saying "you saved $20 dollars. I paid and left. No followup visit was scheduled and no followup phone calls have been received from the company. The contacts I received did not allow me to use them at work. I look at a computer for 8 hours a day and the letters on the computer where blurry. I went there because I read the reviews but it seems the doctors is a bit sure of his prognosis and the perfect prescription from the initial visit while his assistants are not adept at reading the information brought in by patients to know what the insurance companies allow or what the patient signed. I would not recommend this doctor or his team to any of my friends. It is a shame that the one individual who is good at her job works there.
