Don't rent here! Unsafe neighborhood, no security, gates remain open even though they are supposed to be closed. Buildings old, appliances old, we had a permanent smell of smoke in our apartment and we don't smoke. Repairs take weeks to complete and they try to blame the broken part on you! We also had cockroaches all the time. They came to spray but from my trained eye(pesticide applicator) it looked like water. Biggest complaint - they deducted $50.00 from our security deposit to steam clean the carpets even though we had them steam cleaned. The contract states, "The resident shall steam clean carpets, and if they do not the apartment will do so and charge a reasonable rate." Upon challenging the management about the deduction from our security deposit management told us that we were supposed to have the carpet cleaned by a licensed, professional carpet cleaning company - yet the contract says nothing of the sort. They had a plethora of excuses of why they couldn't return my deposit -first it is a federal law, second it is a state law, and last it is in the Landlord Tenant Act. Of course I asked for the statute, section and title number which Ashley said she had no obligation to tell me. Finally she said it is in the contract and we charge everyone to steam clean the carpet. At 5100 tenants @ 50.00 a pop - well you do the math.'
