Traffic Violations
Almost always, a vehicle that hits another vehicle while making a left-hand turn will be found at fault for the accident. However, if the motorcyclist was speeding or in the wrong lane, the motorcyclist may be partly at fault for the accident. In most states, this means the motorcyclist will get less compensation from the driver of the car for injuries and damages caused during an accident. In a few states, the motorcyclists behavior could bar recovery altogether.

A related question to which most want the definitive answer is: What causes sexual violence? As a coalition, we recognize that there are multiple causes - some related to individual pathology of offenders, most related to a culture that in some ways supports, condones or ignores sexually violent messages and/or behavior. Some call this a "rape culture" and point to exploitive images of women and children in the media, the status of women and children in our culture, and the assumption of sexual availability of women, as examples of a "rape culture." While it is impossible to agree on a single source for the cause of sexual violence, we can agree that this is a multidimensional issue that requires response on several fronts.
Misdemeanors
Sexual Assault: Unwanted, coerced and/or forced sexual penetration and/or touch is defined in Michigan/Illinois Statute as varying degrees of Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC). CSC in the first through fourth degrees are felonies in Michigan/Illinois; fifth degree CSC is a gross misdemeanor. Penetration may be of the victim or forcing the victim to penetrate the actor; penetration can be accomplished with either a body part or other object. Similarly, contact can be sexual contact with the victim or forcing a victim to touch the actor.
Assault
Murder
The wrongful act may be negligent, such as careless driving; reckless; or deliberate, such as an intentional murder. And the prosecution of the alleged wrongdoer under a criminal statute wrongful death law does not preclude a private, wrongful death suit.
Shoplifting
An arrest is deemed wrongful when a person is detained and wrongfully convicted by police without proper legal authority. Wrongful arrests most commonly occur when a retail employee or retail owner holds a customer against their will because they have probable cause that the customer committed a crime in their store such as shoplifting. Or, the retailer calls the police and has the police arrest the suspect without any evidence, just on the word of the retail owner or employee. If you or someone you know has been falsely arrested, you may have a potential case.

Sexual Harassment
Sexual Harassment: Unwanted verbal sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other visual, verbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Sexual harassment can occur in the workplace, school and other settings (such as public transportation, shopping malls, community events, social gatherings, places of worship, health care facilities) and can create an intimidating or hostile environment for the victim. The perception of the victim, not the intent of the harasser, determines whether particular words or actions are harassing.

Premises Liability
If we cannot find negligence per se, we consider whether the accident was caused by negligence. For example, a dog that is habitually mistreated, or sick, or suffering from a painful disease is more likely to bite a person, even if the dog has never done so before. Negligence is a ground for liability in most but not all of the one bite states. Sometimes it is referred to as "premises liability" when the incident happens on the dog owner's or custodian's land.
Property Damage
The law requires minimum liability insurance coverage of $20,000 for one individual and $40,000 for more than one individual for bodily injury or death and $10,000 for property damage. Unfortunately, some individuals get their license plates each year by paying the minimum insurance premium and then letting the coverage lapse for nonpayment. Thus, it is not unusual to encounter an uninsured driver in Michigan.

Social Security Disability
The no-fault wage loss and survivorâ€™s loss benefits are reduced by Social Security disability or survivorâ€™s benefits or workerâ€™s compensation benefits. If the no-fault policy that applies was a coordinated policy, the no-fault insurer is entitled to a credit for any private disability payments or insured medical payments made. Depending upon the nature of the benefits, the no-fault insurer does not get a credit or reduction from the wage loss or survivorâ€™s loss benefits for sick pay, vacation pay, or similar employment-provided wage continuation (except for wage continuation benefits available through the employer that are paid by an insurance company or typically would be paid by an insurance company).
