Fibromyalgia
Currently, Mrs. Smith is serving as the facilitator of the Lakeshore Fibromyalgia Support Group. This group is open to persons with fibromyalgia or other medical issues involving chronic pain. Because Mrs. Smith is personally affected by fibromyalgia, she is able to provide insights about the illness from both a personal as well as professional point of view.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
E assess and treat the array of emotional and behavioral issues that are often found to be related to gastrointestinal complaints, such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Studies show that a high prevalence of lifetime psychiatric illness has been found in people with functional intestinal disorders, and some of these functional syndromes are often found in some patients with psychiatric illness. Argaret Bowron Smith is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has had over 30 years of experience in the field of mental health, having practiced in both public and private settings. Currently she maintains a private practice, seeing office patients as well as providing consultations and therapy to patients in the hospital setting. Since 2000, she has maintained Health Affiliate status with Brookwood Medical Center where she is a member of the Brookwood Physical Rehabilitation Team.

Herndon earned her bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She went on to obtain her medical degree at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Her training in adult psychiatry took her to University of Connecticut where she successfully completed her residency. While there, she served as chief resident and went on to earn the Resident of the Year award.
