Need some advice from the peanut gallery…

I stepped out for a few minutes (bank, PO, etc). While I was out, the long-time broadcaster for the Miami Heat, Eric Reid, came in with a drop off. I suppose you can say he is somewhat of a celebrity.



My staff is all fairly new — about 6 months each experience. He hands my younger employee a UPS O/N pack with a pre-paid airbill. He tells my employee that it is a Miami Heat Championship Ring going back for some repair (a diamond fell out). He did show the ring to my employee, and he tells me it has many other diamonds in it. He can't remember if Reid said it was worth $8900 or $89,000. I'm guessing it is $8900. Either way, I look at the airbill and there is no value declared.



Our policy is no drop offs for more than $500 value. I don't know where I got that from, but at one point we were not supposed to take high value drop offs. Anything I ship over $5000 generates a special high value report. Technically, this is $0 value. But, if it disappears, this guy is out a very valuable ring.



Should I call him to inform him that it is not insured, or should I just leave it as is at $0 value?
