Dr. Frank Andres is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with over 30 years in practice. Gynecology
A women’s wellness exam, or checkup, includes health screenings and medical care for gynecological conditions and other diseases specific to women’s needs. A well-woman exam is an important part of a woman’s preventive health care, regardless of her age. What happens at this annual exam depends a lot on your stage of life, your sexual history, and any health concerns.
Obstetrics
Jason Thompson, M.D., received his Bachelors Degree and Medical Degree from the University of Florida in 1998 and 1992 respectively. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida Health Science Center Jacksonville in 1996. Dr. Thompson completed his fellowship in Urogynecology and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery are The Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1999. He remained on faculty at Johns Hopkins until moving back to Jacksonville to join the staff at Mayo Clinic in 2001. In 2004 Dr. Thompson established Florida Urogynecology & Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery, P.A., committed to excellence in women’s health. In June 2014, Dr. Thompson received his Board Certification in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery.
Endometriosis
Endometriosis – when the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside of the uterus on the ovaries where it doesn’t belong. This can cause severe pain and bleeding between periods.
Pelvic Pain
There are many possible reasons for a woman to experience ongoing pain in the bladder, pelvic and genital area. The causes of pain and the perception of pain severity vary tremendously from person to person. Because there are so many internal structures that pass through the pelvis, it is often difficult to determine the underlying source or multiple sources of the pain. Because both urologic and gynecologic sources may be involved it is very important to see the “whole picture” and not approach this only through the eyes of a gynecologist or urologist. Therefore a urogynecologist, like Dr. Thompson, is uniquely capable of developing a treatment plan for chronic pelvic pain.
Labor and Delivery
RECTOVAGINAL fistula: connection between the rectum and the vagina. This results in the passage of gas and possibly stool from the rectum into the vagina. This may occur after childbirth and may be associated with certain diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.

Welcome to Florida Urogynecology. The field of urogynecology is a unique combination of urology and gynecology to treat the complex pelvic health issues
Cervical Cancer
Women benefit from having their first wellness screening between ages 13–15 or when they become sexually active. Usually, the doctors don’t perform a pelvic exam at this early visit unless symptoms require it. Women 21 and older should get a pelvic exam and pap smear once per year to detect for signs of cervical cancer. Breast exams should be performed each year as well, and mammograms are recommended after age 40. As you get older, or if your health changes, your wellness visits may include other tests and exams.
Interstitial Cystitis
Interstitial Cystitis (IC) is also known as the bladder pain syndrome. It’s a complex, chronic disorder characterized by an inflamed or irritated bladder wall. IC affects women (and men) of all ages. In general it feels like a bladder infection (UTI) that never seems to go away. In fact, it is often misdiagnosed as a recurrent UTI. If left untreated, IC can lead to scarring and stiffening of the bladder, decreased bladder capacity and pinpoint bleeding.
Urinary Tract Infection
A urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria migrate up the urethra and into the bladder. The bacteria irritate the bladder (cystitis)—resulting in frequent urges to urinate small amounts of urine and burning with urination (lower tract symptoms). If the bacteria migrate out of the bladder and up to the kidneys (pyelonephritis) this may result in back pain, fever, chills, nausea and vomiting. Theresa Eckert, PA-C graduated from Jacksonville University with her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology degree in 2008. She received her Masters of Medical Science in Physician Assistant from Nova Southeastern University in 2012. Theresa has experience as a Physician Assistant in surgical urogynecology, interventional radiology and geriatric medicine/primary care. As part of our Florida Urogynecology team in Jacksonville, Theresa helps manage acute and chronic urogynecological conditions, performs annual wellness exams, assists with InterStims, and orders and interprets labs and imaging modalities, among other duties.

Hysterectomy
A hysterectomy is a surgery to remove a woman’s uterus. During the surgery the whole uterus is usually removed. Your doctor may also remove your fallopian tubes and ovaries. After a hysterectomy, you no longer have menstrual periods and cannot become pregnant.
Reconstructive Surgery
Not all doctors have the same training and experience to address surgical urogynecology procedures. Dr. Jason Thompson is both board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology and board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery. When surgery is the best approach, your best chance for long-term success is with your initial procedure. It is important to seek expert evaluation from the start.

Botox
Botox injection in the bladder is used to address an Overactive Bladder (OAB). This is for those patients that could not tolerate the side effects of medications or still experience urgency, frequency, or urine loss. The procedure is done by Dr. Thompson in the office under IV sedation, or in the hospital. The procedure takes 15-20 minutes.
